How to Clean and Maintain Your CP Bathroom Fittings
CP (Chrome Plated) fittings can look brand new for years — if you maintain them properly. Here’s a simple guide to keep your taps, showers, and faucets sparkling clean.
Daily Cleaning
Wipe your CP fittings with a soft, damp cloth after use. This removes water droplets that can cause limescale buildup over time. Always dry them after wiping to prevent water spots.
Weekly Cleaning
Once a week, clean your fittings with a mild soap solution and a soft cloth. Avoid using abrasive scrubbers, steel wool, or harsh chemical cleaners — these can scratch and damage the chrome surface.
Removing Limescale
If you notice white deposits (limescale) on your fittings, soak a cloth in a mix of equal parts white vinegar and water and wrap it around the fitting for 15–20 minutes. Then wipe clean with a soft cloth. Never use acid-based cleaners directly.
Things to Avoid
- Never use bleach or strong acid cleaners on chrome fittings
- Avoid using rough sponges or steel wool
- Don’t let soap residue sit on the surface for long
- Avoid hitting the fitting with hard objects
Long-Term Care
Check the washers and seals inside your taps once a year. Worn washers can cause dripping, which wastes water and puts pressure on the fitting. Replacing a washer is simple and inexpensive.
